The Festival celebrates Architectura Picta [Quadraturism]- the art of illusory perspectives and architectural trompe l’oeil – gathering architects and decorative painters in the heart of Rome, for a four days immersive learning experience. Theoretical and practical workshops will take place in the awe inspiring Refectory of Andrea Pozzo, a large hall, completely frescoed by Pozzo in 1693, situated in Trinita’ dei Monti, the iconic church on top of Spanish Steps.
This historic location will be transformed in a real LABORATORY where participants, under the guidance of top professionals of decorative painting and distinguished scholars of drawing and perspective, will learn how to create an illusory space, rediscover the secrets of the ‘most modern of ancient arts’ while being surrounded by the masterpieces of the artist the Festival is inspired by.
The Festival introduces a very innovative and unique concept by approaching the art of illusory perspectives and ‘painted architecture’ in a interdisciplinary way, merging architecture with decorative painting and practical expertise with theoretical knowledge. Its approach sets a new standard for divulging and celebrating the rich and complex art of Architectura Picta in a creative way, making it a very formative training for architects and decorators alike.
The Festival , scheduled to take place annually, constitutes an international network of Universities, Cultural Institutions and Foundations to promote access to this important heritage, fostering further research and training of young architects, scholars, artists and designers.
